Wonju-siThe deepest section of woodland along Yeowon-ro in Wonju presents November's transitional character in concentrated form. Overhead, the remaining canopy filters the fading afternoon light through a patchwork of bare branches and persistent leaves, creating complex shadow patterns on the forest floor. The understory has already dropped its foliage, revealing the structural architecture of young trees and shrubs that is invisible during the growing season. Fallen leaves form a thick layer underfoot, their decomposition releasing the earthy, mushroom-tinged scent that is the olfactory signature of Korean mountain autumn. The silence is broken only by the occasional crack of a branch releasing its last leaf to the windless air.
