Seen from a path above the canyon, the glacial river at Gullfoss in Iceland tumbles over its first step and then drops into a narrow gorge. The water is pale turquoise where it runs calm and white where it breaks over the ledges. A thin ribbon of footpath curves along the left slope, and a wide apron of frost-white ground covers the foreground. The canyon's far wall is dark rock with a lighter crust along its rim, topped by golden brown plateau. Warm evening light picks out the left hillside, while scattered cloud fills a blue sky.
