Flowing water meets two clear steps at Gullfoss in Iceland, with the upper ledge crossing the river like a pale zigzag and the lower drop falling into shadow. Mist lifts from the rocks at the left of the lower step. The gorge wall on the right is stained dark with moisture and edged with ice, while a tawny plateau runs flat behind it. In front, the ground is whitened and sprinkled with dark pebbles, and a black rock juts in at the bottom right. Dramatic gray clouds sit over the left, touched with warm gold from the low sun.
