In Sacheon-myeon on Gangneung's northern outskirts, the December forest presents itself in the layered greens of Korean coastal pine interspersed with the bare brown scaffolding of deciduous oaks and birches. The East Sea coast is nearby - close enough that salt air influences the vegetation and the light carries a reflective quality borrowed from the water's surface.
