The grounds of Naksansa Temple in Ganghyeon, Gangwon-do reveal a sweeping view where forested hillsides descend toward the East Sea. Captured in mid-March, the trees remain largely bare, their brown and gray branches forming intricate patterns against the pale sky. Patches of evergreen pines provide the only green in an otherwise dormant landscape. The sea appears as a flat band of silver-blue on the horizon, separating land from sky with geometric precision. Founded in 671 CE, Naksansa sits on a headland that has served as a meditation point for over thirteen centuries. This scene captures the austere, pre-spring beauty of Korea's eastern coastal temple forests.
