Gangwon-doThe coastal town of Chodang-dong in Gangneung reveals itself in October as a place where the sea and the forest exist in uncommon proximity. Dark Korean pine forests press right up to the shoreline along Changhae-ro, their deep green canopy a stark contrast to the pale autumn sky and the steel-blue East Sea beyond. The town is famous for its sundubu tofu restaurants that line the inland side of the road, but from this vantage it is the natural landscape that commands attention. The October light has a clarity that cuts through the summer haze, revealing the individual textures of pine bark, wave foam, and distant mountain snow.
