Photographed at Namsangongwon-gil, Pil-dong, Seoul in April 2025
A broad paved walking path cuts through a tunnel of spring foliage along Namsangongwon-gil in Seoul's Pil-dong neighborhood, where mature deciduous trees arch overhead to form an unbroken canopy of fresh green leaves. The trees - a mix of zelkova, maple, and other native species - have reached the stage of spring growth where their leaves are fully unfurled but still carry the translucent, lime-green quality of new growth, allowing dappled sunlight to filter through and create shifting patterns of light and shadow on the brick-red path below. Visitors walk in both directions along the path, some in couples, others in small groups, their casual attire suggesting a weekend afternoon stroll. The path is lined on both sides by low stone walls and wooden fences, and the terrain rises slightly on the right side where exposed tree roots and rocks create a naturalistic edge to the trail. The overall atmosphere is one of immersion in green - the canopy is so dense and continuous that it blocks most direct sky view, creating a cool, shaded corridor that feels distinctly separated from the surrounding city. This is Namsan's mid-spring character at its most inviting, when the mountain park becomes a green sanctuary in the heart of Seoul.
