SeoulDense forest covers the slopes of Bukhansan as seen from the Samobawi trail in Pyeongchang-dong, Seoul. In early April, the deciduous trees are still bare, revealing the mountain's underlying bone structure of granite boulders and rocky ridges through the lattice of branches. Scattered pines provide patches of dark green that anchor the otherwise brown-and-gray winter palette. The forest floor is carpeted in dry leaves that crunch underfoot on the hiking trail. The morning light filters through the canopy at oblique angles, creating a play of shadow and illumination on the trail surface.
