Seogwipo-siA spiky agave or yucca plant spreads its sword-like leaves in the foreground, rooted among a traditional Jeju stone wall built from dark volcanic basalt stacked without mortar. Beyond the wall, the sea stretches in brilliant turquoise under a September sky scattered with small white clouds. The basalt wall's rough, dark texture creates a strong contrast with both the vivid green of the succulent and the vivid blue of the ocean behind it. A small portion of a road or path is visible through the wall, along with some coastal structures. The combination of subtropical vegetation, volcanic stone, and Caribbean-blue water is uniquely Jeju, a scene that could confuse someone into thinking they are looking at the Mediterranean or Okinawa were it not for the unmistakable black basalt construction method. Early autumn on Jeju's eastern coast brings this exceptional water clarity and sky saturation, the summer haze finally lifted to reveal the island's true colors.
