Massive volcanic sea cliffs rise from the churning teal water near Udohaean-gil, their stratified layers of basalt and tuff exposed in a cross-section of geological time. The cliff face shows horizontal banding in dark gray and brown, with vivid green vegetation colonizing every flat surface and ledge above. The grass-covered plateau at the top slopes gently, spotted with patches of dried brown grass from winter. An overcast sky hangs low and gray above, its heaviness making the green of the vegetation and the teal of the water seem more saturated by contrast. White foam where waves meet the cliff base traces a thin line of energy around the rock. These cliffs are part of Udo's volcanic rim, and the exposed strata tell a story of successive eruptions and millennia of ocean erosion that have shaped this small island into the geological showcase it is today.
