JejuLooking down from the rim of a volcanic crater in Yeonpyeong-ri, the view plunges past a black pebble beach where visitors are tiny specks against the stones, then sweeps across a small coastal village with colorful rooftops, and finally reaches the golden patchwork of barley fields stretching toward the distant sea. The sheer drop from the crater rim is dramatic, the dark volcanic rubble of the beach contrasting with the white surf where waves meet shore. Houses cluster at the base of the cliff, their proximity to the volcanic wall evidence of how Jeju communities have always built around the island's geological features rather than avoiding them. The late afternoon light brings out the warm gold of the fields and the vivid blues of rooftops in this layered vertical panorama.
