Toseong-myeonA companion frame from Toseong-myeon opens the perspective wider to reveal mountain ridges stacking behind the forest in successively paler bands of blue and gray. The December sky holds a thin overcast that diffuses the sunlight evenly, eliminating the sharp contrasts of clearer days and giving the entire landscape a watercolor quality. The foreground forest is dense with mixed conifers and bare hardwoods, their intertwined canopies creating a textured wall of organic geometry. A trail or narrow road is suggested by a gap in the vegetation, its path climbing toward the ridgeline where the boundary between forest and sky becomes ambiguous. The Taebaek range in winter carries a severity that the lush summer forests disguise - stripped of foliage, the mountains reveal their true skeletal structure, the geological bones of the Korean peninsula laid bare.
