Rangárþing eystra, IcelandSkógafoss drops between two rounded hills of olive and ochre grass, its white water spreading wide at the top and narrowing in a veil near the base. A steep staircase zigzags up the hill on the right toward a small viewing platform, with dozens of tiny walkers on its steps. A low rope fence and a bench sit across the dry meadow in the foreground, and visitors stand in small groups near the foot of the falls. The sky is a flat, pale gray with no break in the cloud. Ochre and olive tones shade the slopes, darker in the shadowed ravines.
