SeoulFrom a high vantage point in Ihwa-dong, the weathered red-brown tile roof of a traditional house fills the foreground, while beyond it Seoul's central skyline unfolds under a sky of dramatic gray and white clouds. The rooftop's aged clay tiles, cracked and moss-touched, create a textured border at the bottom of the frame. Office towers and hotels of the Jongno and Jung-gu districts stack up in the middle distance, their modern glass facades catching muted winter light. Mountains ring the far horizon, their dark silhouettes barely distinguishable from the heavy clouds above. This layered composition captures the essential Seoul experience: ancient and modern pressed together, a five-hundred-year-old neighborhood's roofline serving as the literal frame through which you see the 21st-century city. The February overcast gives everything a painterly quality, shadows soft and colors restrained.
