Photographed at Changsin 2(i)-dong, Seoul in February 2024
A lone walker follows the dirt path beside the restored Naksan Fortress Wall in Changsin 2-dong, bare persimmon and zelkova trees arching overhead against a brilliant February blue sky. The ancient stone wall curves gently along the hillside, its stacked blocks of dark granite showing centuries of weathering. Dried persimmon fruits still cling to one of the leafless branches, small orange dots against the deep blue. The path itself is packed earth, worn smooth by generations of walkers tracing the same route along Seoul's historic inner fortress boundary. Winter has reduced the landscape to its essential forms: dark bark, pale stone, brown earth, and sky. This section of the Seoul City Wall trail near Naksan Park offers one of the most peaceful walks in the capital, elevated above the noise of the city while remaining minutes from the Hyehwa theater district below.
