SeoulFrom near the summit of Naksan, the restored fortress wall descends toward central Seoul in a sweeping curve, with Bukhansan's jagged granite peaks commanding the distant horizon under heavy February clouds. Dormant winter brush fills the foreground, brown and straw-colored against the gray stone, while walkers descend the steps beside the wall toward a traditional Korean pavilion with its curved red roof. The Hyehwa and Seongbuk neighborhoods spread across the middle ground in their characteristic mix of low-rise houses and mid-rise apartments. Bukhansan's Baekundae, Insubong, and Mangyeongdae peaks are clearly visible through the haze, their bare rock faces looking especially dramatic against the stormy sky. This vantage point captures the rare experience of standing on an ancient city wall and seeing both the medieval fortification infrastructure and the modern metropolis it once protected.
