SeoulFrom the hillside of Changsin 11-gil, the dense residential fabric of Seoul's Changsin-dong neighborhood cascades downhill in a mosaic of red brick, white plaster, and green-roofed houses. A dramatic February sky of billowing white clouds and patches of deep blue occupies the upper half of the frame, adding theatrical scale to the intimate neighborhood below. Yellow water tanks dot the rooftops, a signature detail of older Seoul residential areas where water pressure from the city mains doesn't always reach uphill homes. The Naksan area has been home to garment workers and small factory operators for decades, and the tightly packed buildings reflect a Seoul that existed long before the glass tower boom. Winter-bare trees poke between structures, and the overall composition draws the eye from the textured urban foreground up into the vast, churning cloudscape above.
