SeoulA tall metasequoia tree serves as a vertical pillar in Seoul Forest, its straight dark trunk bisecting the frame while its feathery canopy spreads across the upper third against a sky of white cumulus clouds and September blue. Below, the park's great lawn stretches wide and green, populated with families playing badminton, couples on picnic blankets, and children running across the grass. Other trees, including shorter deciduous varieties showing the first hints of autumn gold, frame the background where the lawn meets a dense tree line. The September light is warm but no longer harsh, the shadows it casts from the metasequoia trunk long but soft-edged. Seoul Forest on a weekend afternoon in early autumn is one of the city's most democratic spaces, where every demographic of Seoul gathers on the same grass, and the towering dawn redwoods planted decades ago now serve as natural cathedral columns giving the open lawn a sense of scale and shelter.
