SeoulA weeping willow cascades its long branches into the still surface of a pond at Seobinggo-ro's riverside park in Seoul, its reflection creating a perfect mirror image in the dark water. Lily pads dot the pond's surface near the grassy bank, and behind the willow a diverse collection of trees, including what appears to be a Japanese maple turning early autumn orange and several evergreen conifers, creates a layered backdrop of greens, yellows, and the first warm autumn tones. A few visitors are visible on the far lawn, and cumulus clouds drift across the October sky reflected in the water below. The willow's drooping form dominates the left side of the composition, its curtain of leaves reaching the water in a gesture that makes every willow look like it is trying to drink from its own reflection. This pocket of Seoul's Yongsan riverside parks offers a genuinely garden-like atmosphere minutes from the central business district, the kind of scene that surprises visitors who expect nothing but concrete from the city.
