Photographed at Jeongneung-ro 9ga-gil, Jeongneung 3(sam)-dong, Seoul in July 2025
In Seoul's Jeongneung 3-dong along Jeongneung-ro 9ga-gil, a traditional hanok sits half-hidden among lush July forest, its dark wooden frame and gray tile roof emerging from a wall of summer green. The afternoon light penetrates the canopy in scattered shafts, picking out the hanok's lattice windows and the moss growing on its stone foundation. Jeongneung, named for the royal tomb of Queen Sindeok nearby, retains pockets of old Seoul where traditional architecture and mountain forest coexist as naturally as they did centuries ago.
