Beomseom island appears again from a different vantage along Bomok-ro in Songsan-dong, this time viewed from sea level across a rocky volcanic shoreline. Black basalt boulders scatter across the shallows in the foreground, wet and glistening where the tide has recently retreated. The island's densely forested slopes show every shade of green from chartreuse to deep emerald, with exposed rock faces catching the last warm light of the afternoon along its cliff base. The water between shore and island sits in a calm, steel-blue band, barely rippled. Late spring on Jeju's south coast holds this particular quality of light, not quite golden hour but approaching it, where every surface seems to glow from within.
