Dense summer foliage fills the frame in saturated greens that range from lime at the canopy edges to deep emerald in the understory shadows. The forest is likely somewhere in Korea's mountainous interior - Gangwon-do or the outskirts of a national park - where August humidity pushes vegetation to its most lush state. Light filters through multiple layers of leaves, creating a dappled effect that gives depth to what could otherwise be a flat wall of green. Ferns and low shrubs crowd the forest floor, competing for whatever photons penetrate the overhead canopy. The air in a Korean forest at this time of year is thick enough to taste, carrying the mineral scent of wet earth and decomposing leaves.
