Ara-dong, JejuA Jeju citrus tree heavy with ripe, yellow-green hallabong fruit stretches its branches against a winter sky of soft gray clouds along Yeongpyeong-gil in Ara-dong. Glossy dark leaves form a dense canopy where dozens of fruits hang like holiday ornaments. December marks the beginning of the hallabong harvest, a seasonal delicacy anticipated by residents and tourists alike. The overcast daylight gives this Jeju orchard scene a painterly quality that highlights the warm glow of the citrus. One can almost imagine the sweet and sour aroma mingling with the crisp, cold winter air of the island.
