Cherry Blossom
Cherry Blossom
Gyeongju-si
Gyeongju-siCherry blossom branches arch over a traditional Korean wall topped with dark ceramic roof tiles, their clusters of white-pink flowers exploding against a deep blue spring sky. The wall's construction - stone base with a clay-tile cap - suggests the perimeter of a palace, temple, or historic estate, the kind of boundary that has enclosed Korean sacred and noble spaces for centuries. The tree trunks are dark and muscular, their aged bark providing strong graphic contrast to the delicate, almost weightless blossoms above. Through gaps in the canopy, the sky appears in irregular patches of saturated blue that intensify the perceived whiteness of the flowers. A few bare deciduous branches mingle with the blossoming cherry, indicating that not all trees in the compound have reached full bloom. This image captures the fleeting days of peak cherry blossom season in Korea, when the contrast between ancient architecture and ephemeral flowers creates scenes of extraordinary beauty.
