Gyeongju-siTraditional hanok rooftops line the street in Sajeong-dong, Gyeongju-si as the April sun drops toward the western horizon. The curved clay tiles catch the warm, low-angle light, their dark gray surfaces glowing with subtle warmth. The narrow street leads the eye forward through a corridor of traditional architecture, with wooden doors and stone foundations visible at ground level. Bare branches and early spring growth frame the upper edges of the composition. Gyeongju, the ancient Silla dynasty capital, preserves more traditional streetscapes than almost any Korean city.
