Photographed at Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do in November 2025
A canopy of fiery red maple leaves fills nearly the entire frame at Hwadam Forest, their brilliant scarlet and crimson tones intensified by the warm afternoon light filtering through from above. The dark, angular branches of the maple trees create a dramatic network of intersecting lines against the blazing foliage, adding graphic structure to what might otherwise be an overwhelming wash of red. In the lower left corner, a few golden-yellow leaves from a different tree species provide a subtle color accent that prevents the composition from becoming monotonous. The forest floor is barely visible through the dense layer of foliage, with fallen leaves and scattered greenery hinting at the ground below. Some leaves at the very top of the canopy are backlit to a near-translucent glow, creating bright spots that draw the eye upward through the composition. This close-up immersion in peak autumn red captures the almost overwhelming intensity of color that makes Hwadam Forest one of Korea's most photographed autumn destinations.
