Photographed at Noksapyeong-daero, Yongsan 2(i)-ga-dong, Seoul in October 2024
Later that October afternoon on Noksapyeong-daero, the lens finds a hanok roofline half-hidden by autumn foliage, its curved tiles and dark timber emerging from a sea of gold and crimson leaves. The traditional structure sits on a slope above the main road, its stone foundation walls visible where the hillside has been terraced for construction over centuries. Modern apartment balconies are just visible through the gaps in the trees, their clean horizontal lines a counterpoint to the organic curves of the hanok roof. This is one of the few remaining spots in Yongsan where traditional Korean residential architecture survives in its original topographical context rather than in a preserved heritage zone.
