팔달구, Suwon-siCaptured in a portrait orientation on January 28, 2024, this winter wallpaper features a stone bridge passage at the base of the Hwaseong Fortress wall along Paldalsan-ro in Gyo-dong, Suwon-si. Weathered masonry frames the arched opening flanked by pines, while battlements with repeating crenellations line the top against a cloudy winter sky of swirling clouds and sunset light. The fortress wall extends meters deep, showing its immense thickness. Nearby, the old stone watchtower, or Chiseong, projects from the late Joseon, 18th-century structure to allow flanking fire. The heavy January air adds a solemn grandeur to this historical military fortification.
