Photographed at Suncheon-si in September 2025
In Suncheon Bay National Garden, the late September dusk settles over meticulously designed landscapes where Korean garden aesthetics meet international horticultural ambition. Pathways wind between sculpted plantings and architectural pavilions, all framed by the encircling mountains that give the garden its dramatic natural amphitheater setting. Opened in 2013 as Korea's first national garden, the 1.12-million-square-meter site was designed to harmonize with the adjacent Suncheon Bay wetlands rather than compete with them. The twilight hour softens the garden's formal geometry into something more organic, as shapes merge and colors deepen toward evening blue.
