The rugged granite peaks of Seoraksan rise sharply above the spring treeline in Gangwon-do, their weathered surfaces catching the midday May sun with a brightness that makes the rock appear almost white. Below the cliff faces, the deciduous forest has leafed out in layers of fresh green that soften the transition from stone to soil. Mountain streams and ravines carve through the terrain, creating shadowed recesses that add depth to the otherwise sun-drenched composition. The scale of the peaks dwarfs everything at their base, a reminder of the geological forces that shaped the Korean peninsula.
