Reykjanesbær, IcelandA pale metal footbridge crosses a gap in a rugged lava field on Iceland's Reykjanes peninsula. In front of it, dark gravel is dotted with clumps of dry yellow grass and chunks of grey, folded rock. A paved path runs along the right side of the scene and curves out of view. The low ridge behind the bridge is made of broken black basalt, and above it heavy white and grey clouds open to a pale strip of sky at the horizon. Dark volcanic sand fills the foreground, with only sparse tufts of grass breaking up the flat black surface.
