Minutes later along the same stretch of Haemajihaean-ro, the light has shifted just enough to deepen the ocean's blue from silver-white to a rich cobalt. The volcanic shoreline reveals its texture more clearly now, dark basalt columns and tide pools catching small reservoirs of turquoise water. A walking trail parallels the road, separated by a low stone wall built in the traditional Jeju style using stacked volcanic rock without mortar.
