JejuHaemajihaean-ro traces the northeastern coast of Jeju where the morning light of mid-September hits the water at a low angle, igniting the surface into a field of scattered silver. The coastal road runs close enough to the shore that salt spray reaches the guardrails on windy days. A fishing harbor shelters behind a concrete breakwater in the middle distance, its small fleet of blue and white boats suggesting the economic rhythm that still underlies many of Jeju's coastal communities. The sky carries the high, thin clouds characteristic of Korean early autumn, their translucent forms barely interrupting the blue overhead.
