Cherry Blossom
TemplesCherry blossoms at peak bloom fill every inch of the frame along Bulguk-ro in Gyeongju, the ancient capital of the Silla kingdom. Unlike the common white Yoshino variety, these trees carry a richer pink that deepens toward the petal edges, creating a warmer, more saturated canopy. Fresh green leaves are already emerging among the flowers, a sign that the bloom has just passed its absolute peak and is entering the stage Korean speakers call beotkkot-bi, cherry blossom rain, when petals begin to fall. The dense layering creates an almost three-dimensional tunnel of color, branches overlapping in every direction. Gyeongju's cherry blossom season typically arrives a day or two ahead of Seoul, and the trees lining the road to Bulguksa Temple have been a pilgrimage destination for spring visitors for decades. The portrait orientation transforms the canopy into a vertical cascade of pink that fills the screen with saturated, living color.
