Kyoto, JapanTall bamboo culms rise on both sides of the path in Kyoto's Arashiyama bamboo grove, their green and gray stems marked with pale rings. The trunks lean slightly inward and thin out into a hazy green corridor at the far end. Dry tan grass and a woven bamboo fence line the lower edges, and the path itself is packed with walkers in winter coats, shrinking to small dark shapes in the distance. At the top, a narrow slot of pale sky shows between the leaves, and the light is soft and filtered, with cool green tones in the shadows.
