At Soesokkak-ro, the intersection of coastal forest and sea creates a layered composition that is characteristic of Jeju's southern landscape, where dense subtropical vegetation grows right to the edge of volcanic cliffs before the land drops away to deep water. The October light softens the greens of the forest canopy while bringing out blue-violet undertones in the distant sea, a seasonal shift in color temperature that distinguishes autumn photography on Jeju from the flatter, more saturated tones of summer. The Soesokkak area takes its name from the narrow estuary where the Hyodoncheon stream meets the ocean, carving through basalt walls that rise vertically from the water. This stretch of coast lies within the UNESCO-designated Jeju Global Geopark, recognized for volcanic formations that document the island's geological history spanning hundreds of thousands of years.
