Tall, thin pinnacles rise from the roof of Milan Cathedral against a saturated blue sky. The nearest spire in the center is crowded with tiny niches and carved figures, topped by a small statue. At the left, two more spires lean away at a steep angle, and a lace of pointed arches and stone railings connects them. A large gargoyle projects from the upper right, and beneath it pale stone walls hold a pierced window. A few heads appear at the very bottom edge, tiny against the stonework. Thin shadows from the carved edges fall across the pale stone, giving each niche a clear outline.
