Cherry Blossom
Cherry Blossom
Gyeongju-si
Gyeongju-siLooking upward through a grove of cherry blossom trees at full bloom, the interlocking branches create a lace-like canopy of white flowers against a brilliant blue spring sky. Multiple trunks rise from the lower frame, their dark bark providing strong vertical anchors that prevent the overwhelming mass of blossoms from becoming formless. The trees appear to be mature specimens planted along a street or park avenue, their crowns merging overhead into a continuous tunnel of flowers. Small figures are barely visible at ground level far below, giving a sense of the considerable height of these trees. The light is direct spring sunshine, which passes through the semi-translucent petals and gives them a luminous quality, as if each cluster were lit from within. The composition emphasizes the sheer abundance of Korea's cherry blossom season, when entire neighborhoods and parks are transformed for a brief window of roughly ten days into corridors of floating white and pink.
