The harbor water has brightened, picking up more reflected sky color and revealing the surface texture of small wind-driven ripples that were invisible in the dimmer light of the previous moment. The mountain ridges have gained definition as shadows recede from their western faces, exposing the winter-brown vegetation that covers the steep coastal slopes. A passenger ferry or coastal freighter has appeared at the harbor entrance, its white superstructure catching the new sunlight like a signal flare against the dark water.
