Kyoto, JapanA wide stretch of river fills the lower half, its surface broken into textured ripples and slicks that shift from dark steel to silver. The far bank holds a low line of tiled roofs and golden winter reeds below two forested ridges, the nearer one dense with evergreens and leafless trees. At left, the timber deck of the bridge angles into the frame on slim piers. A small weir with white water edges the right side of the bank, and a bright spot of warm light sits just above the central hilltop, while the sky above fades from lilac to pale yellow.
