Kyoto, JapanRounded hills covered in bare trees and dark evergreens fill the middle of the scene, their winter canopy washed with purple and olive. A low weir cuts across the river at the base of the slope, with a thin band of bright white water. In front of it, the river surface is churned into scattered ripples, glittering in cool light and darkening toward the edges. A few small buildings and a trace of green roof sit at the left foot of the hill. The sky is a flat, pale gray with a faint warm glow just above the saddle between the two ridges.
