The road to Hyangiram hermitage follows the coastline here, clinging to steep terrain where camellia forests meet the salt spray. This stretch of Jeollanam-do's coast belongs to the Hallyeohaesang Maritime National Park, Korea's only maritime national park, and the geological drama of eroded headlands and sheltered coves is fully legible from this elevated vantage. The autumn light at midday strips away the atmospheric haze that summer humidity builds, rendering the islands with unusual clarity.
