Photographed at Seoul, Gyeongbokgung Palace in October 2021
An outdoor art installation on the grounds of Gyeongbokgung Palace transforms the autumn night into a gallery of light and ceramic craft. White and gray moon jars - dalhanari, the iconic round vessels of Joseon-era Korean pottery - are arranged across a grassy lawn alongside geometric paper lanterns and wooden display shelves. The largest lantern, a tall translucent house-shaped structure, glows from within and anchors the composition, its warm light casting gentle shadows across the surrounding vessels. Behind the installation, the dark outline of a traditional palace wall runs horizontally, while modern office buildings and stadium lights from the Gwanghwamun business district illuminate the night sky beyond. This juxtaposition of ancient palace grounds, traditional ceramic forms, and contemporary urban backdrop captures the layered quality of central Seoul, where six centuries of history coexist within a few hundred meters.
