Spring sunset washes over Hoenamu-ro in Seoul's Itaewon 2-dong, where the sloping street descends past a mix of international restaurants, boutique hotels, and the independent cafes that have colonized this neighborhood's side streets. March evening light in Seoul arrives at an angle that turns the west-facing facades into screens of warm gold, while the eastern side of the street falls into cool blue shadow - a thermal contrast you can feel simply by crossing the road. The Hoenamu-ro area sits on the hillside between Itaewon's main commercial strip and Haebangchon above, a transitional zone where the multinational character of the former gives way to the more local, residential feel of the latter. Pedestrians cast long shadows down the slope as they walk toward the sunset, their silhouettes stretched to twice their height by the low spring sun. The sky visible between buildings shifts from peach at the horizon to deepening blue overhead, the kind of gradient that makes phone cameras appear in every hand.
