On the left, a flat-topped block of pale rock with deep cracks juts into the frame, a tuft of dry grass on its upper surface. Across the gap, a sunlit cliff face of tan and orange stone rises in blunt steps, crowned by dark pines along the rim. The gorge itself falls into green shadow, with trees clinging to its slopes. Farther back, red and brown layers lead to a straight-edged mesa, and large cumulus clouds with grey undersides crowd a bright blue sky above it.
