Photographed at Incheondaegyo Expressway, Songdo 4(sa)-dong, Incheon in December 2024
The December sun has just slipped below the horizon off Songdo in Incheon, leaving behind a sky that transitions through an extraordinary spectrum from deep lavender overhead through pale rose and apricot to a concentrated band of warm amber just above the waterline. A small silhouetted structure, possibly a navigation marker or sea stack, breaks the otherwise uninterrupted horizon dead center, providing the tiniest focal anchor in an otherwise vast, empty composition. To the left, distant islands and what appears to be a small airplane trail add subtle depth cues. The Yellow Sea's surface catches the residual glow in a sheet of muted silver, barely rippled by the winter calm. The upper two-thirds of the frame is pure gradient sky, making this an ideal lock screen where the clock sits in the lavender zone and the warm horizon band draws the eye downward. Incheon's western coast, facing the open Yellow Sea, produces these clean, uncluttered sunsets that Korea's more famous east coast, backed by mountains, simply cannot match for sheer horizontal emptiness.
