The foreground is rough, dry moorland in rust and tan shades, with a few scattered stones and a larger gray rock beside the fence. Beyond the water, low rounded hills fade into a thick veil of fog, and the sky above is an even, milky gray. A dark band of low vegetation edges the far shoreline on the right. The colors are subdued, with the water's cool blue as the only clear contrast to the warm earth.
