Genoa, ItalyLooking straight up inside a Genoa church, the view lands on a round dome ringed with gold molding and soft painted clouds. Below it, a vaulted ceiling continues toward the entrance, each bay filled with frescoes of figures in orange, blue and cream. Heavy marble pilasters rise from the corners of the frame and meet gilded cornices. On both sides, ornate balconies with curling gold ironwork frame dark green and burgundy curtains. A single bright lamp glows near the left of the dome, and thin wires cross the space. Pale stone ribs and carved garlands divide the vaults into separate painted panels, each one lit from below by hidden lights.
