Mariposa County, United StatesA massive granite wall rises almost to the top of the frame, its surface marked by long dark streaks and warm tan patches. The summit has a broad, blocky outline with a few small trees along the edge. A band of green and orange pines stands at the base, and darker evergreens crowd the lower right. An oak branch with yellowing leaves reaches in from the right. Across the left, a lower cliff step carries shrubs and scattered trees. The sky is a pale, even gray and shows only at the corners. The cliff's crown is split by cracks, and the trees at its edge appear tiny against the stone.
