Beyond it, tall mesas and temple-like buttes rise in red and tan layers, one peak catching the light at the center. A long, level wall of cliff closes the horizon under scattered clouds, some dark gray and some bright white. At the left, a red ledge with a flat top casts a soft shadow, and green leaves and dry grass poke in at the lower right. The ground below is dotted with tiny shrubs, and the late light gives each ridge a thin bright edge.
